The Insight: Biology, Not Chemistry

The Discovery: Biofermentation

Instead of synthesizing chemicals in a lab, Queenan turned to the oldest chemical factory on Earth — microbial fermentation. The same biological process that produces antibiotics, wine, and cheese could produce biosurfactants and organic acids with extraordinary cleaning and antimicrobial power. But nobody had figured out how to make them stable at commercial scale.

Traditional chemistry cannot stably combine cationic ingredients with anionic biosurfactants. Mix them and you get catastrophic precipitation — the formulation collapses. This is why every biotech cleaning company before Bioferment failed to deliver industrial-grade performance. The chemistry was considered impossible.
